Northwest Pennsylvania K-9 Search and Rescue
The members of the Northwest Pennsylvania K-9 Search and Rescue, an all volunteer non profit organization, have made a commitment to assist the community by training dogs and their handlers to excel in the rescue or recovery of those in need. Further it is our intent to educate the public and help them in developing an understanding of what search and rescue is, how not to get lost, and promoting standards for safe and civilized treatment of dogs. It is this commitment to the community, which remains the guiding force behind us.
NWPAK9SAR Mission Statement
Northwest Pennsylvania K-9 Search and Rescue is an all volunteer group that is dedicated to assisting public safety agencies in finding missing people. We are on call 24 hours a day 365 days a year. We search for lost or missing people in wilderness, urban and disaster settings. We also use our dogs to locate human remains both on land and in water.
Our team will respond to assist anywhere we can, however our primary service area includes the following counties: Crawford, Erie, Forest, Mercer, Warren and Venango. We can only be activated by agencies handling a search incident, this would include law enforcement, fire departments and emergency management personnel. There is never a fee for our service. We are dispatched through the Crawford County 911 center by calling 1-800-223-3008 (this number is for emergencies only, to contact us please use the email on the contact us page).
Members of our team can also give a 1.5 hour class on search and rescue to fire departments. This class will familiarize first responders with some search basics and give them an idea of what we can bring to the table, this class does qualify for PA DOH con-ed. We also make appearances at events like parades, fairs and other community functions.(If you are interested in having us come to your school, fire department or event please email us: info@nwpak9sar.org )
Together we have many years of experience in search and rescue. We also have training in a number of search related disciplines such as wilderness medicine, search management, disaster response and much more.

We can also provide assistance to agencies coordinating a search with our knowledge of search planning, tactics and lost person behavior. Our members and their dogs make up search teams that can be rapidly deployed in a search to bring loved ones back together!
